Former President Olusegun Obasanjo commissions SKYRUN Factory in Calabar
His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Former President of Nigeria has said, with the growing population and the rate of youths searching for greener pastures abroad, factories like SKYRUN will help solve the problem of migration in Nigeria. “For it will boost economy, create employment, and develop the nation”.
Obasanjo made this statement during the official commissioning of SKYRUN Ultra-Modern Deep Freezer/Refrigerator Factory at Calabar Free Trade Zone (CFTZ) on Monday in Calabar, Cross River State.
The former president and pioneer of SKYRUN International Group added that, with the growing population, industrialisation will play a key role in the future and the migration saga will come to an end if SKYRUN Factory is joined by others.
“With SKYRUN, our children who are going to make graves for themselves in the Mediterranean, and those sold as slaves in Libya will no longer do that, for there will be an enabling environment for everyone”, Baba said.
He further emphasised on the growing population of Nigeria, urging the leaders to make policies that will improve the standard of living of the middle class in 30-40 years to come.
“To make the increasing population an asset, we have to provide food, education, employment and accommodation for the people in 30-40 years to come. Factories like SKYRUN is all we need to build the middle class, meet their standard of living.
“SKYRUN will serve a greater purpose if we make the increasing population our priority. And with good leadership from the community to the local, state and federal government, our country will flow with Milk and Honey.
“In the past, we were talking of speedy economy, but now we are talking about quality, and with speed and quality put together, Nigeria will be the largest and biggest country in Africa in terms of economy, growth and development”, Obasanjo reiterated.
Speaking also was the Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade, ably represented by Honourable Peter Egba, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry who said the state has adopted industrialisation, urging the Federal Government, other states to follow suit.
Egba said, with the decrease in oil price as speculated by Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), industrialisation is the key factor to revive the economy, for it has come to stay.
“Nigeria should follow Cross River State and venture into massive industrialisation, as it the only solution to revive the country’s economy. Other states should do the same too.
“For that purpose, the State has put on the table, one (1) industry per Local Government Area policy, a policy that will develop the state in the nearest future”, he said.
The Governor also thanked SKYRUN International Group for choosing Cross River State for the establishment of their multi billion Naira factory which has in turn created jobs for the youths.
“With the establishment of the SKYRUN Ultra-Modern Deep Freezer/ Fridge Factory in Calabar, it has been able to employ Cross Riverians, put food on the table of the people and improve the standard of their living”, he said.
Earlier speaking was the Group Chairman of SKYRUN International Group, High Chief Xie Shao who said, since it establishment in 2005, the company has grown from strength to strength.
“Since Chief Obasanjo brought the company to Nigeria in 2005, the goal of the company has been to bring technology to Nigerians at their door front on an affordable rates to help smoother the livelihood of the people”.
On his part, Chief Matthew Uwaekwe, National Coordinator/CEO, Nigeria-China Business Council (NCBC), said, SKYRUN is committed to boost technology in Nigeria as well as create jobs.
“SKYRUN assembles electronics as well as produces refrigerators, standing fans, washing machines, microwaves, prepared metres, transformers, TVs. The company produces for NTA; StarTimes Digital TV”.
Uwaekwe pleaded with the government for financial support to aid the company run smoothly. “SKYRUN is seeking for fifty million dollars ($50m) from the Federal Government to help ship equipments from outside the country for two years”.
Meanwhile, Honourable Prestige Ossy, Chairman House Committee on Customs, Federal House of Assembly assured SKYRUN of hitch free operation.
Adding that, the Federal Government will ensure the company gets their custom duty as appropriate to enable operate without stress in the country.

G. Egbe; Service Chiefs from the Nigerian Forces, Customs, Immigration, NDLEA; and several others.
