Improved Welfare for Labour – Cross River SSG

The State Government has assured the organised Labour that the Prof. Ben Ayade led administration will not relent in ensuring that the entire workforce in the State continuous to enjoy improved welfare.

The Secretary to the State Governor, Barr. Tina Agbor, who was represented by Director Administration, Mrs. Sylvia Bassey, gave the assurance during the graduation ceremony of 48 participants of the batch 12, 2017, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) State Level School in Calabar.

Barr. Agbor stated that the Government was aware of issues confronting Labour and is working assiduously to ensure that workers in the State are adequately catered for.

“We experience some hitches in the cause of payment of gratuity to our retirees, we pray for patience as this will be perfected soon”, she emphasised.

On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour, Comrade Effiong Umo, admonished the graduating participants to put to practices what has been learnt and advised them to remain submissive to their Union Leaders.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade John Ushie, charged the graduating students on the importance of collective bargaining, unity in work place and the need to always read the constitution of the Union as well as understand the functions of its structures.

He charged the participants to be good Labour Ambassadors, support the Senator Ben Ayede led administration to attain its lofty plans for the State, and thanked the Governor for the utmost priority given to the workforce.

Responding on behalf of the graduating students, the best graduating student, Mr. Larry Bisong, assured that the graduating student will put into practice what has been learnt and be good Labour ambassadors.

Highlight of the event was presentation of certificates to grandaunts and launching of Batch 12 Almanac.
