Wis Up Cross River Campaign!!! Volunteers shares different experience

By Prince Charles

As Wise UP Cross River State Enters the peak period, more effort to record more client has climb up as volunteers have intensify more strategies to record a maximum target. One of such strategies is out of zone mobilization of people from Marian market and nearby busy places like Atekong Junction by Fiesta Fries.

To ensure the level of mobilization, I spoke with some volunteers doing testing. One of them by name, Endurance Edward said she have counsel up to 30 persons on day 19 and 112 persons in total since the beginning of the campaign. In her observation, Miss Endurance noted that everyone she counsel is eager to know their status.

“The most craziest thing I have heard so far since I started testing and counseling is when one of the client said he does not enjoy sex with condom that its makes him uncomfortable. Said Miss Endurance.

“I have counsel and tested 65 people so far in day 19 Morning Shift. But from the first day till today, I have counsel 98 persons in total. The experience have been awesome, sad moment and joyful moment. Sad moment when your client is positive and Joyful when your client is negative and ready to be faithful or abstain from sexual intercourse. From my observations they clients are well informed of the virus, some of them said they have been practicing safe sex. But most of their challenge is the proper way of using condom correctly said Winifred Bisong, a Volunteer.

She went on to share her own craziest moment, according to her “A client once told me that she have multiple partners without using condom due to the heartbreak she faced before from a man.

I also notice that most of them have been using condom wrongly. According to Bisong, they double their condom during sexual intercourse. I normally advise them against doubling it because it causes breakage due to friction and its dangerous.

As we enter the peak period we hope for a greater coverage in the tent. I urged everyone including the volunteers, Coordinators and supervisors to step up their firing spirit as we hope to reach our target before 25th December said Ken Ehouzou, Head of UNFPA office, CRS through Skype.
