The Akwa Ibom State Government is set to commence the construction and dualization of Ring Road 4 in furtherance of the road infrastructure development of the current administration.
The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen dropped the hint when he led officials of the ministry and newsmen on an inspection tour of the proposed road.
Commissioner Inyangeyen disclosed that, the Ring Road 4 project will span from Airport Road to Nung Udoe through Afaha Offiong and Ikot Iwud, both in Nsit Ibom all the way to Etinan by the Post Office.
The Works Commissioner explained that, those who are heading to Etinan axis from the Airport can do so without the stress of having to go through Uyo metropolis and can make the short dash through Ring Road 4 to Nsit Ibom, Etinan and other catchment areas in short time.
Commissioner Inyaneyen also added that, Governor Udom Emmanuel is determined to ensure that the Network of roads, which he harped is important for industrialization to thrive, is achieved in the state.
While arguing that Ring road 4 will open up into Etinan to Eket and Eket through to Ndon Eyo and Onna among others, he also observed that, while traversing through the stretch of the road under consideration, the Agricultural potentials of the road is so appealing and can be harnessed to further create wealth and boost the economy of the state. He also expressed optimism that the area has potential for the industrialization drive of the Udom Emmanuel led administration and for siting industries there as well as Increase the free flow of socio-economic activities.
On how the State is taking up the huge cost of rebuilding Federal roads, Commissioner Inyangeyen decried the refusal of the Federal Government to repay the State for all the amounts invested in constructing Trunk A(Federal Roads), which he noted had totally collapsed in the state.
He however argued that, none compensation for those roads will not deter the state Government from the much needed intervention so that, life can be made easier and more convenient to Akwa Ibom people and those doing business or investing in the state.
The total stretch of the Ring Road 4 is about 22 kilometers with a 75 meters bridge. The commissioner revealed that, the dualised road will also come with a median with electricity and street lights, covered drainages where people live, and with widened drains that can receive heavy flow of water to avoid erosion problems.
A community leader, Chief Robert Uko who spoke to newsmen thanked the state Government for the kind gesture and lamented that, the dilapidated Bridge at Ikot Iwud has wasted a lot of lives, including that of 17 people who were returning from a Deeper Life Retreat when their vehicle fell into the stream. Chief Uko said their suffering will soon be over and expressed their joy over the project.
