Lafarge Africa Plc has expressed deep pleasure in partnering with the Cross River State Government on the commemoration of the 2016 ‘World AIDS Day’ through sponsorship of the event.
Explaining the rationale behind the involvement of the building materials giant in the health initiative of Cross River State Government, the Country CEO, Michel Puchercos stated that the threat to human existence by the HIV/AIDS scourge since its discovery in 1981 has become so alarming that it behoves people oriented governments, institutions and individuals to focus on curbing the virus. “It is in light of this that we like to commend the Cross River State Government for its conscious efforts in this regards”, he noted.
He explained further that the theme for this year’s memorial – Hands Up for #HIV Prevention – and the objective of ‘achieving Zero infection, zero AIDS-related Deaths and Zero Discrimination’ are in perfect alignment with Lafarge Africa’s ‘Clean, Green Zero Harm objective’ which is the driving force behind the company’s health and safety value.
According to Michel, “Health and Safety remain top priority among our values in Lafarge Africa Plc. In line with this, we have shared in the concerns that HIV creates for humanity by formulating a work place policy on HIV/AIDS to address prevention as well as treatment for any infected employees, and guide against discrimination and stigmatisation”.
In concluding, the Country CEO assured stakeholders of continued partnership with the government and good people of Cross River State as a proud corporate citizen and a socially responsible organisation.
