As part of efforts to join the world in completely eradicating HIV/AIDS scourge in the state by the year 2030, the Cross River State Government is to support the use of more condoms in the state for those who cannot completely abstain from sexual involvement.
In addition, the wife of Cross River Government, Dr. Linda Ayade who maintained readiness to support her husband, Prof. Ben Ayade’s administration drive to see that the state is free of all ailment told newsmen in Calabar at a press briefing, ahead of World AIDS Day that the state will be supporting inclusion, social protection, sexual education, testing, faithfulness and abstinence.
This year’s World AIDS Day is to consider the theme ‘Hands UP for #HIV prevention.’
Dr. Ayade, who was represented by her Special Adviser, Mrs. Rose Eneji added that her Mediatrix Foundation Non-Governmental Organisation was reinvigorating efforts to stay on the fast track to joining the world on ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030.
“This year, we are raising our hands in support of more condoms, inclusion, social protection, sexual education, testing, faithfulness and abstinence,” Dr. Ayade said.
The first lady seized the opportunity of the press briefing to call on political office holders, development partners other partners to join the current administration led by her husband, the Governor of Cross River, Prof. Ben Ayade to campaign against HIV/AIDS come December 1.
Lafarge groups of company, this year’s World AIDS Day sponsor in Cross River, in a statement it issued, as presented by Special Assistant to wife of governor on media, Mr. Fred Abuo.
Justifying the reason for their involvement in the sponsorship, Lafarge said the scourge of HIV, since its discovery in 1981 has become alarming and so it behooves on government, institutions and individuals to focus on curbing on the virus.
The country CEO, however assured stakeholders in the fight against the scourge in Cross River of Lafarge’s continuous partnership with the state government and good people of Cross River State as a proud corporate citizen and a socially responsible organization.
