Photos: Gov Ayade at the Climate Change Conference in Morocco #COP22

Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade and the speaker of the house of assembly, Honorable John Lebo are currently in Marrakech, Morocco for the United Nation’s climate change conference.

Ayade and Lebo departed Calabar for Abuja Saturday evening and sources say the duo are already in Marrakech for the twenty-second session of the Conference of Parties (COP 22) and the twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 12) with one government house official saying they touched down Casablanca on Sunday.

Also, at about 11:42 PM Sunday, the Speaker Tweeted a picture of himself on his official handle @gaullebo announcing that he was in Morocco for the COP 22.

“Attending the World Conference of parties COP 22 on Climate change under the United Nations framework for Climate Change (sic)”

Governor Ayade is the Chairman, African governors’ forum on Climate Change and environmental issues and has consistently said that Cross River State must lead the way in the fight against climate change and global warming.

The Governor designed several schemes including the introduction of a non-arm bearing force, ‘The Green Police’, which has drawn mixed reactions from the public, specifically task in “effectively manage the state’s forest reserves” as well as aggressive afforestation of both depleting reserves and urban areas.

Also, He introduced the ‘Green Carnival’ into the state’s flagship Calabar festival, a 32 day event. The theme for the Carnival Calabar will for the first time, be repeated after he unveiled the theme for 2016 as ‘Climate Change’ earlier in the year.

The COP 22 and CMP 12 which is holding in Bab Ighli, Marrakech, Morocco began November 7, and will last till November 18, 2016 says the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Website.
