One killed, 6 arrested as Police parades suspected criminals in Calabar




Information reaching Calabar Reporters newsroom says one suspected armed robber named Alex was killed, while his gang member also known as Brown Efiok is in critical condition and five others have been arrested by the Cross River State Police in Calabar on Wednesday night.

The robbers, according to the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Ozi Obe Jimoh attacked the microfinance bank in two cars at about 3.00 pm on and the; police were alerted through a distress call and the police responded promptly to the scene but the robbers had escape when the police got there.

“We got a distress call that robbers had attacked a micro finance bank and a filling station in the Calabar South area and my men responded by going there but by the time they got there the robbers had flew the area but one person describe the car used by the robbers as a black Toyota Camry and my men went in hot pursuit.

“The police caught up with them at the Marina area of the city and the robbers opened fire leading to exchange of gun fire between the police and then hoodlums leading to the death of one of the robbers and wounding of one of the robbers while others were arrested.” Mr Ozi Jmoh added.

He gave the name of the dead robbery suspect as Alex, while the one taken to the emergency unit at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital as Brown Efiok

He said the robbers also attacked a filling station close to where they robbed the microfinance bank and were also collecting handbags from people along the route they were escaping after the robberies.

“They had juju on them which gave them the confidence to confront my men but through superior fire power, their juju failed them and we got them”. Jimoh said.

He warned that the police will not relent and will ensure there is calmness as the people of the city enjoys a peaceful Christmas free of crime.
