Barcelona always knows how to find their way back into situations as the Catalans fought back from a defeat at the Champions League to close the gap between and league leaders, Real Madrid with Lionel Messi scoring one and creating another to help La Liga big boys end a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sevilla in Sunday’s La Liga encounter at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan – Luis Suarez netted the winner in the 61st minute that same day.
Luiz Enrique side now narrowed the gap with leaders Real Madrid to two points as they head into the international break and restored some confidence having been beaten 3-1 by English side, Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week. With most people calling the game as a revenge after they thump the same side 4-0 in the previous leg of the cpmpetition.
The game looked tight but it was former Chilean coach, Jorge Sampaoli’s (who help the South American side win a back-to-back COPA American against the same club, Argentina) men who enjoyed the better start of the game, and deservedly went 1-0 ahead when Vitolo punished a defensive mistake from Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto.
But it was just about the matter of time for Sevilla as Messi levelled the scoring in the closing stages of the first half, by scoring his 27th goal against the same club, his favourite opponent to say, before the Argentine wizard set up fellow South American brother, Luis Suarez for the winner after the break.
The win now leapfrog the Catalans to second place, two points above their today’s opponent and two behind leaders and arc rivals, Real Madrid FC.
