Cross River Assembly Summons CROSIEC on LG Elections

The Cross River State House of Assembly has in a resolution summoned the Chairman and members of the State Independent Electoral Commission CROSIEC, the Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, the Chairman and members, Local Government Service Commission, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to appear before the House on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 to offer explanation to their preparedness to conduct Local Government elections into the various Local Government Councils in the State.

The mover of the motion, Hon. Hilary Ekpang Bisong, member representing Boki II State Constituency, observed that he was constrained to move the motion because the tenure of serving Local Government Officials will expire in December, 2016.

Hilary explained that by the provision of Section 10(a) of the CROSSIEC Law Cap C18, of Cross River State 2014, the State Independent Electoral Commission is empowered to organize, undertake and supervise all elections in Local Governments across the State.

Reacting to the motion, the members representing Ikom I State Constituency, Hon. Fred Osin, the Deputy Leader, Ikom II Rt. Hon. Simon Nkoro Egbong, Calabar South I. Rt. Hon. Okon Ephraim, Obubra II Hon. Elucate Ekom among others stressed on the relevant sections establishing the State Independent Electoral Commission CROSSIEC and the need for Cross revarians to know when and how soon the constituents at the grassroots can elect their representatives info the local government Councils
