Youths of Akwa Ibom State have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release 13% oil derivation to the state and refrain from acts capable of threatening the peace and progress of the state.
They made call during a solidarity rally that saw them march to government house in Uyo.
The youths in their thousands condemn the refusal of the APC-led Federal Government to pay the state its due entitlement, adding that their peaceful disposition should not be misinterpreted for cowardice.
They insisted that the state is fully a PDP State, amd that the governor has been able to keep his part of the bargain with the youths in terms of trainings in specialized fields, loans schemes, employment opportunities among others.
Addressing the rally, some youth leaders including the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters Aniefiok Iwa Udofia, the PDP State Youth Leader Enobong Harry, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Political Mobilization, Isantim Kenneth Okon, all acknowledged the efforts of the governor in equipping the youths for the future.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the declaration of the governor as the Grand Commander of the Youths.
Responding, Governor Udom Emmanuel reassured youths of Akwa Ibom of his resolve to lay a solid economic foundation for the state in spite of the present challenges in the country.
The Governor addressed a rally of thousands of youths who besieged the government house in Uyo after marching across the major streets of the state capital in a show of solidarity and support to his administration.
Governor Emmanuel who was flanked by several youth leaders and political stalwarts in the state commended the youths for their peaceful disposition and support which have allowed for meaningful progress to be recorded in the state, and urged them to continue to strive towards being self – reliant in order to fit into the emerging opportunities created by his administration.
He revealed that in the next few days, “the manufacturing line for pencils, toothpick and all those allied products will soon be on its way from Apapa Port to the state.
He recounted that several youths of the state are currently undergoing screening to start work at the emerging electric metering plant in Onna, while several others are at the site of the coconut plantation and refinery at Mkpat Enin, Ikot Abasi and Eastern Obolo axis of the state.
Governor Emmanuel said he was challenged by the overwhelming show of support and solidarity by the youths and promised to even surprise them with more programmes.
“The youths have given me their support, and I have resolved that no matter the economy of Nigeria, our youths must be better off.”
Earlier before the ‘I Stand With Udom’ carnival procession at Ibom Hall, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barr Onofiok Luke had charged them to continue in their overwhelming support for the governor.
Luke acknowledged the unprecedented hunger and high cost of living in the country under the watch of the APC –led federal government and lauded Governor Emmanuel for his sterling managerial qualities that have brought about succour in the state.
The state PDP chairman Obong Paul Ekpo commended Governor Emmanuel for being a worthy product of the party and assured that the party has already adopted him ahead of 2019 governorship election in the state.
The youths in their thousands stirred the hitherto peaceful atmosphere in Uyo by marching along major roads chanting solidarity songs for the Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party.
Coming from all local government areas in the state, the youths expressed satisfaction with Governor Emmanuel for his various youth friendly programmes such as empowerments, interest –free loans, trainings in Agriculture, engineering and other specialized fields.
